Portuguese Conservas FAQ
What are Portuguese conservas?
Conservas are high-quality canned seafood products that form an important part of Portuguese food culture. They are designed to preserve flavour and texture while making fish and seafood convenient to store and serve.
How should I serve Portuguese canned seafood?
Serve straight from the tin with bread, olives and salad, or use in pasta, rice, sandwiches and tapas-style sharing boards. The oil or sauce in the tin can often be used as part of the dish.
Which fish should I try first?
Sardines are the Portuguese classic, while tuna is milder and versatile. Mackerel has a richer flavour, and cod, squid or mussels are excellent choices for discovering a broader range of Portuguese conservas.
